Needed to book a room for an unexpected overnight stay in Yellowknife. I had stayed at the Explorer many years ago and thought it was top notch then. It is still a pretty good hotel. Sure, it's showing its age, but they are currently renovating and adding a new wing with 70+ suites and a few new amenities. Staff was friendly and responsive. My room was on the top floor with a nice view and it was clean and comfy. Shower had good pressure, and room service was prompt and tasty. All in all it was a great stay. I can't give it 5 stars because it is not a 5 star hotel, but it's a well deserved 4 stars. If you need a place to crash in Yellowknife, you will be all set here. 8/10, lay my head down to sleep again.

Great experience with a friendly staff. As of July 20th the hotel is under going construction but that has not interrupted the daily functions of the hotel. The restaurant has a wonderful view that looks out into a forest it seems with how densely populated the trees are out side. You feel as though your in the woods. Also if you can't a chance to see the polar bear let him know that I'm ready for round 2!

I stayed at this hotel on official work. The hotel is neatly maintained. Not much noise. Friendly staff. The hotel's lounge restaurant had great food, a little pricey but tasted fantastic for the items that I ordered. Very friendly staff there too. I have been given the top floor facing one of the smaller lakes and it was very nice (see photo). For a comparatively remote place like YK, this hotel is great to be in.

Good lunch, ambiance and view. Montreal smoked meat sandwich was a good surprise. Fish and chips are overcooked and a disappointment. Seafood chowder is good. So is the meatball in the soup of the day, Italian wedding soup.

Most excellent. People like to nit pick about the littlest things. Your in the north, accommodation s are not as easy to maintain or update as it is in the south. The hotel is most welcoming rooms clean and comfortable food is very good. We enjoy coming here everytime I am in Yellowknife which is many times a year since my work takes me to the communities in the Arctic. Enjoy this rest stop very much.
